The Potential of Intercropping for Multifunctional Crop Protection in Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus L.)

چکیده

Oilseed rape (OSR; Brassica napus ) is a globally important crop which increasingly under pressure from pests, pathogens and weeds. We investigated the potential of achieving multifunctional protection benefits by intercropping oilseed with legumes. A field experiment was conducted in winter intercropped annual frost sensitive legumes berseem clover ( Trifolium alexandrinum or spring faba bean Vicia ), grain peas Pisum sativum ). tracked damage to autumn pests (slugs insects), pathogens, weed biomass, as well intercrop yield each treatment. Intercropping treatments resulted pest that equivalent lower than alone. Follow up lab assessments for legume intercrops provided evidence reduction OSR. Each had its own drawbacks relation pest, pathogen suppression, suggesting plant species selected should be based on weeds greatest concern locally achieve relevant benefits. Our study provides framework further experiments effects can quantified.

Indications of Selenium Protection against Cadmium and Lead Toxicity in Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus L.)

The present study investigated the beneficial role of selenium (Se) in protecting oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) plants from cadmium (Cd+2) and lead (Pb+2) toxicity. Exogenous Se markedly reduced Cd and Pb concentration in both roots and shoots. Supplementation of the medium with Se (5, 10, and 15 mg kg-1) alleviated the negative effect of Cd and Pb on growth and led to a decrease in oxidativ...

Crop Establishment Practices Are a Driver of the Plant Microbiota in Winter Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus)

Gaining a greater understanding of the plant microbiota and its interactions with its host plant heralds a new era of scientific discovery in agriculture. Different agricultural management practices influence soil microbial populations by changing a soil's physical, chemical and biological properties. However, the impact of these practices on the microbiota associated with economically importan...

Assessment of the adaptation of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) genotypes using non-parametric statistical methods

One of the most important challenges for plant breeding has always been genotype × environment interaction. In present study, genotype × environment interaction was invesitigated for 13 winter oilseed rape genotypes in six cold and temperate cold locations in Iran using non- parametric statistical methods during 2014-2017 growing seasons. Four methods; Hildebrand, Bredenkamp, Kubinger, and De K...

Sterols and the phytosterol content in oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.)

Sterols are natural, organic compounds with a molecular nucleus of 17 carbon atoms and a characteristic threedimensional arrangement of four rings. From the chemical point of view sterols are steroid alcohols and their name is derived from Greek stereos, which mean solid with ending –ol, which is the suffix for alcohols. As essential constituents of cell membranes, they are widely distributed i...
